2009 POEM Basic NET Training Information.
Information on how to register will be e mailed to individuals showing an interest in taking the classes. Thank you for your interest in the Portland Office of Emergency Management's Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) classes, community emergency response teams. Here's the detail information to register for the 2009 Fall Neighborhood Emergency Team training. Basic NET Training classes are free. The in-class sessions for the 2009 Fall semester will be held Wednesday evenings 6pm-9pm and Saturday mornings 9am- Noon at Portland Fire & Rescue Training Facility, 4800 NE 122 Ave., Portland. On-line registration will begin July 5, 2009. On line registration closes on Wednesday, September 10, 2009, unless the class is maxed out before that date. The first Wednesday class is September 16 through Wednesday October 28. The first Saturday class is September 19 through September October 31. The Final Field Exercise for both class sessions is Saturday, Nov 7. Seating for the series of the seven class sessions is limited to the first 40 individuals per Wednesday or Saturday. Classroom trainings are at the Portland Fire & Rescue Training Facility, 4800 NE 122 Ave., Portland, OR and begin on time. You are welcome to bring water, coffee, juice, or soda and a snack to your classroom training. Bring note taking materials and a folder/envelope (8.5X11 inches) or a three-ring binder to your first class session. While the training is free there is a cost to you to either assemble a NET Kit/Pack or purchase a pre-made one. Information about assembling or purchasing a pre-made Kit will be discussed in the first class session. The City lends to qualifying NET Members a helmet, vest, Field Operations Guide, and a photo ID. Those items are City property and are only used for related NET assignments/call-outs. Basic NET Training Classes: Session 1: Disaster Awareness-Earthquakes and Other Disasters, Home and Workplace Preparedness, Neighborhood Preparedness and NETs Session 2: Utility Control-Gas, Electric and Water, Fire Extinguishers-Types and Uses, Hazardous Materials Session 3: Disaster Medicine; Treating Life-Threatening Injuries, Medical Triage 1 Session 4: Disaster Medicine 2, Treating Common Injuries, Setting Up a Medical Treatment Area, Public Health Considerations Session 5: Light Search & Rescue 1, Visual Assessment of Damaged Buildings, Search Techniques Session 6: Light Search & Rescue 2, Rescue Techniques, Patient Transport Session 7: Disaster Psychology and Trauma Intervention, NET Team Management, NETs in Action-Tabletop Exercise Session 8: the NET Final Field Exercise—a four hour hands-on practical drill. To be a qualified NET you must complete all seven classes in the series and the Final Field Exercise.
