Eight NET/CERT Members To Serve As Volunteer Emergency Responders At The 25th Annual Tribute To The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Silver Anniversary Will Be held On January 18th, 2010 At The Highland Christian Center Church Located At 7600 N.E. Glisan Street, Portland Oregon 11:00am - 6:30pm. This Will Be The Third Year That NET Members Have Participated In This Auspicious Event. As Safety Officer/Communication Specialist For The World Arts Foundation Inc., I Would Like To Thank NET/CERT Members : Al Varner (Third Year), Ed Rentz (Second Year), Mac McCawley (Second Year), Julie Green (First Year), Pete Plassaras (First Year), Robin Franklin (First Year), & Yours Truly Clarence W. “Keep Alive the Dream”
25th Tribute Celebrating the life and works of… Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On Monday, January 18, 2010, beginning at 11:00 A.M., Greater Portland will join hands to celebrate the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The World Arts Foundation, Inc. is proud to produce its 25th consecutive tribute to a great American. The program, widely celebrated for its powerful display of diverse talent, takes place at Highland Church Center (Formerly New Beginnings Church & Studio) beginning at 11:00A and ending at 6:30P. The address is 7600 NE Glisan St., Portland. Feel Free to join us for the entire Program. Lifetime Achievement Honorees will include local citizens and organizations the reflect the ideals of Dr. King, like the retired Superintendent of the Forest Grove School District – Dr. Jack Musser, the retired Deputy Superintendent Of Hillsboro Schools– Mr. Carlos Perez, the Vision Action Network of Washington County, Oregon State University – President Dr. Ed Ray, civil rights attorney Gregory Gudger, Officer Mark Zylawly (posthumously) of the Portland Police Bureau, Mr. Joe Won Kim- Beaverton Human Rights Advisory Committee, Lt. Col. Leneld Brown-Founder of National Black Veterans Association in Portland, Mr. Charles Ford – retired Youth Gangs Task Force Volunteer, Dr. Joseph Gallegos-Department Chair of University of Portland’s Social Work Program & activist for the Cesar Chavez Street naming, Ms. Karen Haberman Trusty-White Civil Rights SNCC Activist & Archivist of the 1960’s, OHSU Avel Gordly Center for Healing, Ms. Jennifer Doncan-21 year educator in the Portland Public Schools, the Community Warehouse-Kristy Wood, the Urban League of Portland-Mr. Marcus Mundy and many more. Presentations by Mayor Sam Adams. NET Member/Red Cross Volunteer Clarence W. Harper Jr. One Of Twenty Five Selected To Receive Martin Luther King Jr. Lifetime Achievement At This Year's Tribute. “Keep Alive the Dream” reminds us all, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. did so eloquently and so powerfully say that “we are all bound together in a single garment of destiny.” The indomitable spirit of the American people must keep their own dreams alive by being ever more responsible and involved in the pursuit of justice and democracy in our local communities. Invited artists include: The Jefferson Dancers, singer Linda Hornbuckle, violinist Aaron Meyer, musician Patrick Lamb, pianist Janice Scroggins, Gospel choirs from Seattle, African drummers, Portland Philharmonic Choir and other artists. Invited speakers include: Oregon’s Governor, Portland’s Mayor, Local Senators, business and religious leaders, educators, school board members and other distinguished individuals. The entire seven-hour program will be simulcast on KBOO Radio (90.7 FM), Portland Cable Access Television (Channel 11). Admission consists of $5.00 donation or five cans of non-perishable food. Local vendors will offer a full range of services and merchandise in the International Exhibition Area.
